Sport Teams Expand Cities, Like Etobicoke Volleyball

By Ericka Marsh

Nothing puts a town, city, or country on the map for many people quite like a sports team. This can become even more true during the period just prior and during an Olympic year, wherein athletes from many places come together. With the addition of this particular beach-centered pass-time as an event, it is possible more people will learn about the success of Etobicoke volleyball teams as they train the athletes who shall pursue the Gold.

Located on the beaches of Lake Ontario in the Ontario Province in Canada, this is a small community within a larger city. This is a community few people in the world are familiar with, but through media coverage of the Olympic Games, they hope to draw new visitors. Anyone who travels to Toronto may appreciate the small-town feel, and wish to book their hotel room in this small borough.

This area boasts some of the finest shopping centers in Toronto. For anyone who does not fear the far north, it is an ideal vacation destination during the months of October and November. One can visit a small city with a friendly atmosphere, take in the sites, learn about their burgeoning sports and recreation centers, and get their Holiday shopping in all at once.

There are coaches who teach everyone from small three-to-five year-old kids on up to teens and young adults training for Olympic dreams. Elite programs exist for these athletes, preparing them to be on a winning team. Professional players from their national teams are in on it as well, helping to train and prepare many young Olympic hopefuls.

More than the small communities see benefits when sports puts them on the map. Young people all over the world become familiar with places they never knew existed. It becomes a fun and exciting way for young people to learn the geography of the world around them.

This sport, while originally played as a day-at-the-beach activity, has become an event which young women are paying more and more attention to. Historically only sporting events dominated by men have taken center stage in the world arena. Girls often avoid sports as a result, figuring that college scholarships and Olympic opportunities are not something that apply to them.

The Olympics has always been a great gender and race equalizer in the world. There have been nearly as many young women and minorities to become famous due to their Olympic achievements, with their moments of glory being played for viewers decades after the event. This is more important for young people than ever.

Sports has always taught leadership, and now more than ever young people need the physical fitness. However, for many people it means so much more, and everyone knows how the Olympics themselves have always been a time-honored tradition bathed in beautiful ritual. The world needs more team spirit and sportsmanlike behavior, and it is always a welcome sight when a new town is added to the list.
