How to Calculate Your Daily Calories From Fat

First off- let's talk about some numbers so you can more easily understand "Calories from fat"
Roughly 3,500 calories = 1 pound of fat.

*FAT IS DIFFERENT THAN WATER WEIGHT - most crash diets help you shed the water weight. Burning fat is a little more difficult, but certainly possible if you are dedicated.

Now, let's get started with the fun stuff: Calculating fat grams can be very simple if you have the right backbone to start from. In this example, I'm going to use a very simple can of soup. Here are the steps you need to follow when adding up the fat:
1. Look at the food label and identify the fat grams.
2. Keep in mind there are 9 calories in every 1 gram of fat- say that to yourself until it sinks in. WOW! That's a lot.
3. If the label says 20g fat, you simple multiply #fat grams x #calories in 1 gram of fat.
20g x 9 (calories in 1 g fat) = = 180 calories from fat.

OUCH! Can you see why it's difficult to shed pounds? Can you see how easily you can consume up to 5 times your daily recommended fat intake? Not sure- check out the food labels next time you shop. Gravy? The meat section? Dressings? Some of these are off the charts in fat! My point is this:

NEXT TIME YOU GROCERY SHOP OR DINE OUT, TRY TO LEARN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ABOUT THE FOOD YOU ARE EATING- THIS SIMPLE HEALTHY HABIT MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE.
Let's take a closer look: The recommended daily intake for fat is 30% of your total caloric intake. Let's use 2,000 calories as your total daily intake to demonstrate this:

If you consume 2,000 calories per day, then 600 of those calories should come from fat, or
2,000 x 30% (.30)= 600.EzineArticles.com by: Jeff_Hopeck
